Vancouver Promise Tracker

Is the city investing in parks and green space?

Vancouver has over 230 parks. Building new ones, renovating old ones, and maintaining trails costs real money. Here's the capital budget trend.

On track

Capital spending on parks & public open spaces has gone up — $55M planned for 2025 versus $47M in 2023.

In plain terms: This covers new park construction, major renovations, trail building, and playground upgrades. It does NOT include day-to-day maintenance (mowing, cleaning) which comes from the operating budget.

How we calculated this
We pulled every line item from the City of Vancouver's multi-year capital budget tagged 'Parks & public open spaces' and summed the planned expenditures by budget year. This is the city's own forward-looking plan, not actual spend. The dataset covers 2023–2026; big projects land in single years, so the series is lumpy. Source: City of Vancouver open data.
